Finding opportunity in the transition to carbon-zero
Senior industry leaders will share their insights
The UK was the first major world economy to set a legally binding net-zero emissions target. Although some progress has been made – the UK is a world leader in offshore wind, with turbines generating almost a quarter of the country’s electricity, and will host COP26 in Glasgow later this year – there is still a long way to go.
The challenge of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 will mean transforming the entire UK economy. Investment is essential; an estimated £50 billion will be needed every year from 2025-2050 to fund the transition. From energy, manufacturing, construction and transport to banking and insurance, major sectors of the economy must be mobilised and motivated if the UK is to stay on track.
The Financial Times are delighted to host this live, invitation-only breakfast event in the run up to COP26, bringing together a select group of senior business leaders from the UK’s essential sectors. We will explore the most successful strategies for decarbonisation, and what support is still needed if UK businesses are to make the transition to a carbon neutral future.
